Mission
River City Outdoors is working to build a vibrant and equitable outdoor culture and brand in the Greater St. Louis region by connecting the community to its outdoor assets.
Together, the network will collaborate to…
Address the barriers that exist to safe and equitable outdoor access and experiences;
Bridge the information gaps about outdoor recreation opportunities in the region;
Connect the community to our region’s natural and recreational assets; and
Support outdoor organizations, businesses and programs in and around the St. Louis region, especially those led by BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and communities with disabilities.
River City Outdoors envisions a St. Louis region that celebrates and structurally supports an outdoor recreation community and culture, including all paths to wellness through time spent in the outdoors.
Vision
Why We Exist
Whether you’re going to the Arch or Forest Park, hiking or roller skating, there’s a space for you to experience the outdoors in a way that’s meaningful to you.
Yet St. Louis is typical of many midwestern communities, in that it does not have a mainstream active living culture. Additionally, the region faces deeply rooted racial, cultural, and socioeconomic challenges.
This has lasting impacts on our collective health and wellness, which many local and regional organizations – that are best-positioned to engage diverse communities – are working to address.
At River City Outdoors, we are connecting those organizations, as well as local community leaders and outdoor enthusiasts, to facilitate community-building and a shift in St. Louis culture to highlight all that our outdoor spaces have to offer.
